From Switzerland back to France

This is the view that we awoke to on our last day in Switzerland.  The Matterhorn was much clearer as there was apparently quite a bit of wind up on the mountain.  How lucky that we had a still day for our trek up there...

We sat on our balcony enjoying the view and remembering our adventures of the day before....

You can see the "Kleiner Matterhorn" in the foreground of these pics, where Jen learned to ski ....and still has a sense of humour.

As Zermatt is a car free town, they use electric golf cart things for transport including taxis and police cars.... We were taken back to the railway station in one... It makes for a wonderful town....

This is the view out of the train window as we headed down the valley from Zermatt.  This train is a private train, not part of the Swiss railway system.

We changed trains and headed for Geneva.  Here is the view of lake Geneva from the train....

We were leaving the high alps behind....

Jen got stuck into the Swiss chocolate and started being here hyperactive self... hmmm....

I leant Jen my Bose headphones that Mikki and Pete gave me for my birthday... She was enjoying the music from her ipod....

She tried to convey the tune for my enjoyment in actions....

Did I say she was enjoying herself ?

We hired a car in Geneva and drove to Annecy in France.  Just getting out of Geneva was an episode as we had chosen to go on small roads rather than take the freeway.  Jen was great at following the directions and I didn't manage to crash into any other vehicles... all good.

We arrived at Annecy courtesy of our GPS but it also said that our hotel was "unreachable".  I had book a hotel in the middle of the old medieval part of annecy so the GPS lead us to some bollards in a small laneway ...not helpful.

After finding the hotel on foot, we were given directions to drive the car to the hotel to drop of luggage... after half an hour of going round the streets of annecy we managed to refind our bollards and press the intercom... only to learn that we were at the wrong set of bollards.

Ten minutes later we were let into the old town as the bollards descended to let us drive along past these restaurants to our hotel...

This is the "Palais de l'isle" in the old  town.  Built from 12th century to 16th century ... right beside our hotel...

Jen is pointing to our hotel... you can see the palais de l'isle in the photo...

After finding our room via a rabbit warren of corridors... we opened the window to this view....

And this view....

We went for a walk through the old town ....and had dinner in one of the local restaurants...  yum.

After dinner we continued to explore our surroundings...

Quite an amazing place....

We will be exploring in detail today....

White swans were swimming past in the river...

And a castle above us...

We headed back to our hotel... pooped....
