Positano and Amalfi Coast...

Positano and the Amalfi coast - what can I say?  WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!
We arrived at our room and were stunned with the view from our room which overlooked the Mediterranean Sea.
From our balcony we enjoyed various headlands of Positano and the sea was constantly dotted with small boats as you can see below
It is a beautiful place or what???
I have never seen such magnificence as this, coloured buildings adorned the cliff tops with majestic mountains in the background
This is the full view from our balcony, what a pretty coast this is. We slept with our doors open and listened contentedly to the lap of the sea on the foreshore
We headed out for lunch and found this beautiful cliff top restaurant where we could enjoy the view below.
After our lunch, we waddled up the steps and ventured into the township
Isn't it just the prettiest place.
Every headland had a view like this and how lucky are people who live here to have this view daily
We drove the whole of the Amalfi coast today and by the end our nerves were shot - such narrow roads and when you see buses or trucks coming the other way you have to breathe in to pass them.
The road are so very narrow. A bus passed us and I swear if Bob had his elbow out of the widow he could have polished the side of the bus - no trouble
After our day of driving, having the odd heart attack and nerve shattering close shaves a drink was in order. Sitting on the balcony overlooking our view of the township below and the sea with this magnificent sunset is just pure bliss.  Unfortunately the colour of the sky doesn't show how truly brilliant it was
Sunset gifted us with lights adorning the mountain side and it just looked like fairy land
Breakfast is served in your room so you can partake on the balcony overlooking the stunning views yet again. Could you ever get sick of this view??? I don't think so.
One of the cruise ships pulled into port for the night and just added to the picturesque scene that we continually enjoyed.  Lucky it wasn't the Costra Cordordia!!!
As we drove the coast there was one beautiful township after another, each with it's own appeal
See what I mean. Some of these places are just carved into the cliff face
The colours are truly a sight to behold
The water is continually blue and stunning clear
Once we ventured off the tourist track, we headed into the mountains, same principle as the little townships of Positano but not so crowded. Still so beautiful
We happened across a little restaurant perched on top of the mountain which incidentally had parking next to it - a rarity indeed so we decided to stop for lunch.
The owner of the restaurant came out and started talking in Italian but couldn't speak english, so between the few words that Bob could speak, he ordered us lunch.  I could understand the general gist of things in between the blah, blah, blah, as in local cheese, local this, blah blah blah, local that and so I politely nodded in agreement and we had miraculously ordered lunch. The Bob told me that she had said that there is no menu - what would you like for lunch? So we said spaghetti and she suggested broccoli - which I thought was a bit odd, but we went along with the flow.
Well, out came this four course meal!!!!!
Of course we started with our drinks and the usual complimentary basket of bread and surprise!!! - out comes a salad with local cheese, home grown lettuce, olives and eggplant. Delicious.  And if that was not enough, then comes our spaghetti.  By this time we are feeling a little full. The end of the meal. How delicious.
Little did we know the spinach and broccoli plate was yet to come and was it big. My gosh, our iron intake will last us for a month now.!!!
Finally after forcing as much of this down as we could, we just had to leave the last bit, moved it around our plates a fair bit in the hope that the dear lady who served us wouldn't notice too much.
So we had to wash it down with our traditional italian coffee, but of course not before the next course came out. Out comes a big plate of grapes off and including the vine - homegrown of course and local walnuts.
This was the view from the restaurant and you can see the ocean beyond the mountains.
We drove all the way to Miori, Sorento and back, seeing all the Amalfi coast that we could manage. This was a very popular area, just heading down off the mountain from our lunch spot - and this is only about a third of the view that we could capture with the camera
Finally after another nerve shattering drive - thank God Bob was driving - I needed a drink!!! One has to be quick to read all the signs above and this was jut a little one, you should see the major junctions - quick which way to Positano?????
We made it. Back to our hotel for a stiff drink!!!!
Ah yes, the 'claytons' Costa Cordia is still afloat.  Good to see.  Let's sit on the balcony and enjoy the vista once more!!!

Following our nanny nap we ventured into town for, yes, yet another meal. My gosh, is there anything else we do???

Dinner on the roof top of yet another fantastic restaurant gave us opportunity to enjoy the night lights and reluctantly Bob agreed to go for a walk into town after we ate. So off we go, stopping on the enormous downhill track to admire the view once again, when the bells of the church below start to chime for about ten minutes.  We had stopped on the way down to admire the view and then we were startled by a big bang which caught our attention. Would you believe that the fireworks started, no I mean literally.  There was an enormous fireworks display for the whole area to enjoy and it was spectacular to say the least.

Once this finished, we ventured yet again downhill into the little township to be met with candles lining the streets, rose petals strewn in front of us as we wandered into where the action was, balloons released and music playing.  I asked Bob, how did they know it was our last night, and how hospitable of them to do such nice things for us on our last evening here.

Well, silly me, we found out it was the feast of the Santa Maria and there was a street parade, followed by crowds singing and following a big statue of our lady to the local church. Then after a public benediction and a huge band playing numerous songs, the real music started, there was a concert and dancing in the streets.
Well, Positano, all I can say is thanks for the hospitality.  It was great and yes, we will be back!!!!
