After breakfast in our hotel we grabbed a ferry up the Grand Canal... standing room only ! At Rialto we decided walking was better than ferries ...
So time to hop off and find a cafe for a drink ....
And then it was time for a Gondola ride ...
It was near high tide so the Gondolier had to tip the gondola over to fit under the low bridges...
We did a good hour trip so we were able to go down some quiet canals....
With our Gondolier giving us a running commentary and showing us places where Vivaldi and Mozart had lived etc....
But every so often we came across the gondola traffic jam...
And eventually it was back on the Grand Canal and under the Rialto bridge...
And then it was time to hit the streets again...
Jen made a bee line for the chocolate....
While I headed for the olives...yum....
And we wandered into St. Mark's square...
The water was rising... so ... time for lunch...
We headed just behind the square to a small alleyway and a good looking cafe...
And bought tickets for a play in the evening... then walked back to our hotel the long way ...ouch... for a quick rest before the evening.
We took a less crowded ferry along the Grand Canal to S. Marco to go to the theatre...
There were lots of musicians playing in the square....
The theatre was interesting... the story of Venice...
After dinner it was a short walk to a restaurant in a piazza somewhere in Venice... not sure we could ever find it again but the food was, as always in Italy.. great...
Tomorrow its back on the train heading for Lake Como....
